Having always been a singer I had never thought of playing a brass instrument.
I was taken to some band concerts which I thoroughly enjoyed. I was finally persuaded to try my friend’s cornet. I got 3 open notes and was hooked!
Graham gave me various instruments to try and I chose the Baritone Horn for its low, mellow sound and comfort to hold. I was set on the path by Graham and Brenda in August 2014 and with their, and the Thursday groups help, let in the band in January 2015. I had just retired from work at the age of 65 so was ready for something new.
I play for around an hour a day which, luckily, my husband and dogs seem not to mind.
In 2018 I was presented the Alan Brown Trophy by the other band members. I was so proud.
It’s never too late to learn something new. With the help and support of our lovely, friendly band members I have discovered a pleasure I never expected to find.
